Welcome to the Montana Natural
Heritage Program’s TRACKER. We intend TRACKER to eventually be the major
source of statewide information on plants, animals, and communities.

(1) provides distributional information
for bird and other animal species by quarter degrees of latitude and longitude in a manner
consistent with P.D. Skaars Montana Bird Distribution (Lenard et al. 2003),
(2) allows individuals to quickly report bird observations online with
precise spatial coordinates that are much more useful for conservation
planning and management activities, (3) allows individuals to view all
their own bird observations in the context of a variety of map layers
and spatial scales, (4) dynamically creates a list of bird species that
have been reported within the area viewed on screen, and (5) provides
statewide access to aerial photos, 1:24,000 scale topographic maps, land
stewardship information, county boundaries, public land survey boundaries,
and information on highways, lakes, and streams.

as time and resources allow more
spatial and tabular querying capabilities will be built into the application
in order to enhance its usefulness.
We have turned off the ability to enter bird records on
the old MBD web site....[more]
However, while we are developing
tabular queries for the new web site, the tabular querying capabilities
of the old web site will remain on. Unfortunately, the old web site
will not be accessing the latest version of the database so more recently
reported records will not be available for tabular queries on the old
MBD web site
